The Japan tour was a wonderful combination of musical experiences and cultural discovery. The group travelled to Toyko, Mt Fuji, Hiroshima, Osaka and Kyoto. Musical highlights included exchange performances with Shizuoka Eiwa Girls School Bands, Suzugamine Girls High School and Gakugei High School. Each of the schools had very different and unique wind ensemble programs and they provided the opportunity for an exchange of musical and cultural ideas despite the language barrier. The ensemble also had the chance to work with Mr Atsushi Yamashita, a well known and very charismatic band conductor who travels through many part of Asia for conducting and workshops.
The tour was a fantastic experience providing our students with an insight into Japan’s people culture and music.
This was the third international tour by NSSWE and its success assures more to come.
